The sign outside of a Shinjuku Starbucks |
When I arrived in Japan at the height of summer in
August, temperatures were pushing 40 degrees Celsius and humidity was over 80%. On the bright side, I was just in time to
sample Starbucks Japan summer specials:
Strawberry Cheesecake Frappuccino and Chocolate Brownie
Matcha Crème Frappucino
I tried the cheesecake one in Tokyo while on a business trip
in downtown Shinjuku. I was not terribly in love with it, as it reminded me
more of a milkshake than a frappuccino.
On the other hand, I ordered the Chocolate Brownie Matcha Crème
Frappucino every chance I got in Matsue city. There is only one Starbucks in
our prefecture and it is 2 hours away from me! Fortunately I had a 10-day
business trip in Matsue, so I got to go to Starbucks almost every day.
Pure bliss.
For those who don’t know, “matcha” is that gloriously strong
green tea in Japan, that Starbucks has adapted to a Frappuccino, which is both
bright green and deliciously sweet. When combined with brownie crumbles, it is
even better.
